Tip 117- Don’t Let This Happen To You

New hire ‘Joe’ tells you he doesn’t need your group health insurance. He has coverage through
his wife’s employer.
Later, when Joe doesn’t show up for work, his wife calls and says he’s had an accident. Worse,
the hospital is complaining because they can’t verify he has any insurance. (Apparently he did
not enroll in his wife’s plan after all.)
So, Joe then claims you never offered him coverage. Can you prove otherwise?
Sure, because you were smart and had Joe sign a waiver when he chose NOT to enroll in your
health plan.
Didn’t you?
(This ‘Tip’ – from two years ago – is worth repeating!)
