This week, we’ve been reminding our clients about the ACA requirement that ALL employees be given – by October 1st – information about the availability of “New Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage.” The Department of Labor has created a “Model Notice” for that purpose.
This rule applies whether or not you offer a health plan and even if you have just one employee.
Within this Notice, employees are encouraged to get more information by checking their “summary plan description.”
Guess what? It is also your responsibility to assist employees obtain either their SBC or their complete Certificate of Coverage within 30 days of a request.
Both are easily obtained through your insurer’s website, or by calling customer service.
