Tip 133- One More Year

An individual changing jobs will have a pre-existing conditions limitation on their new coverage, unless they can provide documentation there has been no break in coverage greater than 60 days; i.e. a “Certificate of Creditable Coverage.”

The Affordable Care Act eliminates pre-existing conditions limitations, but this change applies for health plans beginning on their first renewal date after January 1, 2014.

Therefore, employers should continue to provide Certificates of Creditable Coverage throughout 2014.

This will prevent employees from encountering pre-existing conditions clauses on plans that transition to ACA compliance mid-year.
