Tip 141- Shorten The Wait

Under the terms of most group health plans, employers routinely require that a period of time must pass before coverage for an employee or dependent can become effective.

This is called “the waiting period.”

Beginning for plan years on or after January 1, 2014, a group health plan may not apply any waiting period that exceeds 90 days.

Both grandfathered and non-grandfathered plans must comply.
