Tip 161- UC vs ER Redux-Part I

This just keeps coming up. Maybe it’s the number one customer service issue we deal with. I wrote about it in Tip # 8 three years ago, but it’s time to deal with it again.

According to the Healthcare Bluebook, the average cost of an Urgent Care (UC) visit is $173. A ‘Level One’ Emergency Room (ER) visit is $598; a ‘Level Five’ ER visit can be $4,781 or more.

If you have a High Deductible Health Plan, the difference between a UC visit and an ER visit probably will come out of your pocket.

Worse, your health insurer may deem your ER visit to be a non-emergency and pay nothing! That will be the topic of next week’s Part II.
