A Tip from the past suggested that one way to save on health insurance premiums is to buy less
insurance. Higher deductibles do cost less.
Then you can use a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) or contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA). These can (at least partly) reimburse your employees for their higher out‐of‐pocket costs.
But even that strategy isn’t always affordable. Here is another way:
Hospital indemnity, critical illness, and accident plans all provide coverage for gaps in your health plan. Your employees simply pick and choose what they need.
One insurer does a lot of “quacking” about its products.
But there are literally dozens of other good values.
