Tip #417: What Date Is It, Anyway?

I can’t believe ‘summer’ is over. Already, the pumpkins are on display in front of my neighboring grocery store.

More relevant, October 1 and November 1 health insurance renewals are already on my desk. In just three weeks, December 1 renewals will arrive. For those of us in the group health insurance business, 4th quarter is like April 15th for H & R Block.

Here’s some good news. Markets seem to have stabilized. Double digit increases are the exception.

Our first January 1 key account was offered a 3% increase. We countered with 0%. And got it!

Next up, the annual Open Enrollment Period for individuals under age 65 who don’t get coverage through an employer (11/1 thru 12/15).  Rates for 2020 won’t be revealed until the end of October, but here’s a prediction that’s sure to jinx things.

Look for small rate reductions.
